Our History

Little Flowers Montessori School was established in 1990 for the benefit of young children in our community.  Preethy Goonetilleke founded the first primary classroom with the help of a group of parents who were seeking a quality Montessori school.

Over the years growth has come in many stages.  The first class met at St. Joan of Arc Church in Minneapolis in the summer of 1990.  This was a temporary location until a permanent home was found that fall in St. George's Episcopal Church in St. Louis Park.  The St. Louis Park school serves approximately 50 families.

Little Flowers Montessori School expanded in 1996 by building a new facility in Plymouth.  This school includes five acres of land allowing for a comfortable indoor space and abundant outdoor space for the children to be in touch with nature. The Plymouth school serves approximately 70 families.

It was Preethy’s ultimate vision to create a natural outdoor environment for children to be in touch with nature. Preethy held the pioneering vision in the Montessori community to create a farm-to-table vision for young children to experience. Her vision from twenty years ago is still in practice today as the children plant, care for, and harvest a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the season.

In over 25 years, Little Flowers Montessori has been a leader in the Montessori community. It is the mission of all members of our community to stay true to the Montessori Method and its principles. By maintaining the purity of the method, Little Flowers Montessori has been able to see countless children graduate from the kindergarten program and continue their studies in elementary school and beyond. With our strong sense of community, Little Flowers Montessori School maintains a strong connection to many of our alumni and families.

Little Flowers Montessori School continues to grow and develop its history.
